What is the difference between WPS and pWPS?

A Welding Procedure Specification (WPS ) is the formal written document that describes the welding procedure. It provides guidelines to the welder to perform good quality production welding as specified in the regulations. The purpose of this document is to guide welders to the approved procedures so that recognized welding techniques that are repeatable are used.

A Preliminary Welding Procedure Specification, or pWPS, is a document that contains required variables in relation to the welding procedure that need to be qualified in order to produce an approved qualified welding procedure specification (WPS).

If you want to ensure repeatable quality welds that comply with welding standards, then you should consider ordering a preliminary welding procedure specification. A pWPS document is developed for each material, each product type, each welding procedure and for each filler material used.
