From the Bronze Age to the 21st century
A journey through the history of welding methods. Welding, an art and science essential to everything from construction to art, has a fascinating history stretching back to the Bronze Age. It's hard to imagine, but our ancestors' ability to forge metal together has led us to the sophisticated methods we rely on today.
The Bronze Age, known for its innovative use of metals, witnessed simple forms of welding. Small pieces of gold, for example, were 'welded' together using a hammer/sledgehammer, a method that was both time-consuming and limited in application. But it was the beginning of an evolution.
However, it wasn't until the 19th century, during the Industrial Revolution, that welding methods really began to take shape. The invention of the arc, and later the development of acetylene, provided the foundation for modern welding. These breakthroughs made it possible to achieve higher temperatures and more precise welds, revolutionizing construction, shipbuilding and many other industries.
