EN ISO 3834 is a standard that ensures that quality is maintained in the field of welding. You could say that it is a framework that describes how to achieve a well-functioning quality system in the execution of various welding applications. The standard defines three levels of quality, depending on the type of welding performed.
The standard is currently used in most countries. However, many companies have not yet realized the benefits of implementing a quality system according to this standard. The requirements may come from other standards, as well as from customers or authorities. For example, NS-EN 1090-2:2018 refers to this standard.

ISO 3834-1: 2005 provides criteria for selecting the appropriate quality requirement for welding of metallic materials from the three levels specified in:
- NS-EN ISO 3834-2:2005 Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials - Part 2: Comprehensive quality requirements.
- NS-EN ISO 3834-3: 2005 Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials - Part 3: Standard quality requirements.
- NS-EN ISO 3834-4: 2005. Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials - Part 4: Elementary quality requirements.
This applies to production, both in workshops and at field installation sites.
The properties of welded products cannot be verified by testing alone, it is ensured by controlling the production process. If welding production processes are managed according to EN ISO 3834, it is recognized that the quality of the welds in the final product will meet the specified criteria.
